Yes we can,  but it involves a little history.  First, the Donbass and Crimea are historically Russian going back to the 1700s and the inhabitants are majority Russian. Keep that in mind.  Second, when the Soviet Union fell in 1991, one of the promises made to Russia was that NATO would not expand as Russia (and NATO) always wanted a buffer.  Second, as Gorbachev pointed out, it was a mistake to break the USSR up according to internal bureaucratic lines and that Crimea should have been a part of russia.

Well, NATO repeatedly broke that promise and expanded eastward. When asked about Ukraine joining NATO in about 2009, Putin said he would invade. The final straw for Russia was after the 2014 CIA backed coup in Ukraine that ousted a neutral President and installed a pro-Western president.  This was the last straw for Russia and days later, they initiated the referendum and predictably they chose to join the Russian federation as they are majority ethnic Russian and were being persecuted by the Ukrainian government because they were ethnic Russians (there has always been a lot of bad blood between Ukraine and Russia going back to Holodomor and before).  Putin stopped after that.  However, once Zelensky started responding to the overtures of NATO, Putin fulfilled the second part of his promise and invaded to take the Donbass back, and when he succeeded, he offered a peace deal to Ukraine.  However, the U.S. and Great Britain implored Ukraine to keep fighting as the western powers would provide them all the materials they needed. Keep in mind that the original purpose of NATO was to fight the Soviet Union (Russia). In this case, they didn't want to do their own dirty work, so they used Ukraine as a proxy, and they are perfectly willing to throw Ukrainians against the Russian defensive front until the very last man, because they don't give a shit about Ukrainians. They only care about weakening Russia.  So I pull for Russia, not because I hate Ukrainians, I don't.  I pull for Russia because I have soured on the leaders in the west that has held absolute power over the rest of the world for so long, they have become drunk on it.  Keep in mind, these are the same people who started pointless wars in places like Iraq, Syria, and Libya. They need to be taken down two or three notches.

In a just world, UNO backed NATO troops would parade in Moscow by now. Russia is a danger to its neighbours and peace and safety all over the world. The faster Russia is pulled out of its imperialist ambitions the better for everyone.
