Another brutal shooting has been carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) or the Free Papua Organization (OPM) led by Kopitua Heluka (Operations Commander of the Yahukimo Defense Regional Command / Kodap Yahukimo). They killed three civilians in the Trans Papua Road area, Seradala District, Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua, on Monday (July 20, 2026).
According to preliminary identification, the three victims are Kumis Kogoya and his wife, as well as a woman from the Unaukam Tribe.

Based on a written claim released by the Central Headquarters Management of the National Liberation Army of West Papua-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM), the group has claimed responsibility for the consecutive shootings that killed the three civilians.

The Head of Information for the TNI Habema Operations Command, Infantry Lieutenant Colonel M. Wirya Arthadiguna, expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims.

To anticipate potential further security disruptions, the TNI Habema Operations Command immediately coordinated closely with the police to conduct an investigation, secure the area, and pursue the OPM group led by Kopitua Heluka.

All operational measures taken by security forces in the field continue to prioritize the law and the safety of civilians.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. No civilian should lose their life to acts of violence. The TNI Habema Operations Command will continue to work selectively, measurably, professionally, and in accordance with the law to restore a sense of security and ensure the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions," Lt. Col. Inf. M. Wirya Arthadiguna said on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).

He emphasized that security guarantees are a fundamental prerequisite for daily life, children's education, medical services, and the economic activities of residents in Yahukimo Regency to continue functioning.

The TNI urges all elements of society in Highland Papua not to be easily provoked by unverified rumors or information (hoaxes) deliberately spread by the armed group. The public is asked to remain calm and place their trust in the law enforcement and security efforts of the TNI-Polri.
