Russia, Saint Petersburg - May 10, 2026
The accident occurred on May 10 at 7:25 AM near building 27, block 2, on Udarnikov Avenue. The intercom camera captured horrific footage: a garbage truck, reversing down the driveway, struck and ran over a pensioner walking slowly along the sidewalk with a cane. The woman had no chance of survival.
According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, a 63-year-old man was driving the Jack garbage truck. While reversing, he failed to ensure it was safe to maneuver.
The regional police headquarters' Main Investigative Department opened a criminal case against the driver under Part 3 of Article 264 of the Russian Criminal Code (traffic violation resulting in death through negligence). Pending the investigation, the man was ordered to appear as a procedural coercive measure.
