Negros is the fourth-largest and third-most populous island in the Philippines.
Negros is one of the many islands in the Visayas, located in the central part of the country. The inhabitants of this island region are mainly known as “Negrenos” (or “Negrosanos” in local slang). Yeah, apparently there's a communist insurgency or something like that on this island—honestly, I got tired of looking into it, so it's up to you guys to find out more about it.

Among the dead were Alyssa Alano, a student leader at the University of the Philippines; community journalist RJ Nichole Ledesma; and alleged senior commanders of the New People’s Army in northern Negros.
Also, among the dead were two Filipino-Americans identified as Lyle Prijoles, 40, of San Francisco, a member of the national council of the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines, and Kai Sorem, 26, of Steilacoom, Washington, one of the founders of Anakbayan South Seattle.

The Philippine Army has maintained that the 19 died in a series of clashes between soldiers of the 79th Infantry Battalion and the New People’s Army (NPA) on April 19.
