A 2-year-old girl died and three people suffered injuries of varying degrees after being run over by an out-of-control truck last Saturday in the Buenos Aires town of Villa Celina, La Matanza district.

The tragic event occurred around noon, on Roosevelt Avenue and 9th Street, when a family came from shopping and the grandfather was carrying his granddaughter on his shoulders.

While they were waiting on the sidewalk to cross Roosevelt, a Ford 1400 truck -driven by a 37-year-old man- lost control, climbed onto the sidewalk and ran over a public lighting column that, when it collapsed, hit the man, woman, girl and a young man of 22 years. All that sequence was recorded by a security camera and the images are shocking.

The driver, far from stopping, continued his march running over different posters and objects that were in his way. All the injured were rushed by relatives to a private sanatorium in Villa Madero; place where the minor, after being assisted by doctors, died due to the multiple injuries she had.

The other injured meanwhile remain hospitalized.

Prosecutor Claudio Fornaro, from UFI 1 Departmental La Matanza, intervenes in the investigation, who ordered the arrest of the truck driver and requested that blood be drawn in order to establish if he was drunk. The result of the test, which was carried out 4 hours after the accident at the hospital, was positive. He had 1.51 ml of alcohol in his blood, 3 times more than allowed.

The driver was identified as Ariel Rodríguez, 37 years old, and a native of the Lomas de Zamora district.

The case was classified as aggravated manslaughter and in the expert tasks, officers from the 7th East Police Station acted. of Villa Celina.

Due to the anger of the neighbors, that night they demonstrated at the door of the police station to demand that the driver remain in prison and that the municipality take action on the matter by installing a traffic light at the scene of the tragedy.

"My sister is physically fine but emotionally she is devastated, like the whole family," the uncle of the deceased minor admitted to the press, who also said that her father "is in critical condition."

Despite the fact that the neighbors called the ambulance, the man said that "it never arrived" and that his sister was transferred in the first instance to a first aid room that is near the place of the accident. "There they told her that they couldn't help her because there were no supplies and they had to cover 2 more kilometers," she said.

“We want justice for my niece. Her name was Genesis," said the man, who remembered that he had lunch with her that day. “In the morning she had gone to the pediatrician with her paternal grandmother, she was all 10 points. Then she had lunch with us, I said goodbye to her and half an hour later they call me that this had happened, ”he lamented.

Regarding the driver, he said that "the first thing the driver did was grab the phone and ask for help to get out of the moment" and that if it had not been for the quick actions of those who witnessed the accident "he would have escaped."
