The Cause.

A 48-year-old female passenger argued with and struck the driver on the head with her mobile phone after he refused to let her off the bus where she missed her stop.

The Crash.

The driver fought back with one hand while steering, lost control of the vehicle, and swerved across oncoming traffic before breaking through the bridge railing and falling 50 meters (164 feet) into the river.

Casualties.

All 15 people on the No. 22 Wanzhou Public Bus (14 passengers and the driver) died in the tragedy.

Aftermath.

Surveillance footage released by the Chongqing Police Department sparked widespread national debate in China regarding passenger behavior, public transit safety, and driver accountability.
