In the district of Al-Hawban, located in Taiz Governorate, two convicted murderers were publicly executed by firing squad after a court upheld the ancient Islamic principle of Qisas — retribution for intentional killing.

The case centered around the murder of the father of Professor Qaid Ahmed Hassan, a respected educator from the remote Al-Kharayeb area. According to local reports, the elderly man was deliberately killed in cold blood by two men later identified as Naeef Ali Dahan and Faisal Ali Mahyoub.

Following a full judicial process, the victim’s family reportedly refused both forgiveness and financial compensation, insisting instead on full retribution. Under Yemeni law and Sharia-based sentencing, the court approved a final death sentence.

Videos circulating online allegedly show the moment the execution was carried out in public under heavy security, with judicial officials and relatives of the victim present.

The incident has reignited debate in Yemen: some view the ruling as proof that justice still functions despite years of conflict, while others see it as a harsh reminder of the unforgiving nature of “an eye for an eye” justice.
