There were six people in the Fiat Strada. Four of them – Maria Vitória Pereira dos Santos (8 years old), Antônio Dalprá Pereira (6 months), Maria dos Anjos Pereira (62), and Elzi Pereira (69), who was also the driver – died as a result of the crash. Among the two initial survivors were Bruna Pereira Martins, mother of the two children, and her infant son Antônio. Sadly, Antônio succumbed to his injuries later in the hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to five.

Bruna suffered fractures to her pelvis and ribs but is in stable condition and remains hospitalized in Porto Velho.

The victims were returning to Cerejeiras, where Bruna and her children lived. The elderly couple, Maria dos Anjos and Elzi Pereira, who lived in the district of Triunfo in Candeias do Jamari, were Bruna’s biological grandparents but had raised her as their own daughter – making them also the great-grandparents of the deceased children.

The crash was so violent that baby Antônio was ejected from the vehicle. He was rescued alive but did not survive his injuries.

Bruna’s husband, Alisson Dalprá, who lives in Cerejeiras, was not in the vehicle. He traveled to Jaru as soon as he received news of the tragedy that claimed the lives of his children and his wife’s grandparents.

The Municipal School Maria Helena Barreiros, where Maria Vitória was a student, issued a note of condolence, and the school community is mourning her loss.

The cause of the crash is still under police investigation. The truck driver escaped without serious injuries.
