Two alleged hitmen from the country's capital were burned alive by residents of Sacapulas, Quiché, who accused them of murdering a clothing saleswoman from that town.

Víctor Manuel López Cifuentes, 25, and José Alberto Gutiérrez Copen, 23, both originally from Guatemala City, were lynched (and burned alive) on September 16 in a community in the municipality of Sacapulas, Quiché.

The National Civil Police (PNC) confirmed that both subjects attacked the life of a woman, a clothing seller in a shopping plaza in that town, identified as María Lux Castro, 47, who was still alive and was taken to the national hospital of Santa Cruz del Quiché, where he later died.

The two individuals were burned alive in a section of Sacapulas. The population accused them of having murdered Lux Castro in the morning.

López Cifuentes and Gutiérrez Copen were arrested by the PNC in the village of San Jorge, when they tried to flee on a motorcycle.

However, the residents, enraged, snatched them from the PNC elements, who could do nothing to rescue them.

The estimated number of residents gathered exceeds 1,500, according to authorities. While they were beaten, according to the PNC, they were forced to reveal who had planned the attack, and both people revealed a name that has not been made public.
