PAKISTAN — Violence against security forces has flared up again in the country. A police officer was killed and another wounded after gunmen attacked officers stationed to guard the entrance of a hospital in Jandola, in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to police reports, the perpetrators opened fire on the officers and threw a hand grenade before fleeing. Following the attack, police teams arrived at the scene and launched a search operation to locate those responsible.

So far, authorities have not revealed the identities of the attackers nor clarified all the details of the incident.

## RELENTLESS WAVE OF VIOLENCE

The attack comes amidst a worrying series of armed actions against law enforcement officers in the Tank district. Earlier in the week, three traffic police officers were killed after gunmen opened fire on their patrol in the Wazirabad bazaar area.

After carrying out the attack, the perpetrators also stole the police vehicle. The patrol car was later recovered, but the incident highlighted the climate of insecurity facing local security forces.

The attacks have left dozens dead.

The escalation of violence also reached Kohat, where the explosion of a vehicle laden with explosives near a mosque inside a police compound was followed by an armed attack on the security facility. According to police and health authorities, at least 21 people were killed, including 15 police officers.

In another serious incident on July 26 in the Tank district, an attack on a joint police checkpoint left 15 people dead—including 14 members of the security forces—according to information from the Armed Forces' communications wing.

The victims included 12 soldiers, two police officers, and a government official. ## SECURITY UNDER PRESSURE

The series of attacks highlights the gravity of the situation facing security forces in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Police and military personnel continue to be targeted by armed attacks, while authorities conduct operations to locate suspects and contain the violence.
