A fugitive wanted by the police became involved in a scuffle with a police officer during a chase and was eventually shot.

A 33-year-old man died after reacting to the police presence and becoming involved in a scuffle with a military police officer in Capão Redondo, in the south of São Paulo, on Sunday (6).

According to the information gathered, the man was identified as Felipe Barbosa de Jesús Barros and was wanted by the police for robbery. During a chase, he entered a recycling plant, where he was eventually located by the police.

As the officers approached, Felipe allegedly became involved in a physical altercation with one of the police officers and attempted to wrestle the weapon from him. A second officer involved in the incident fired at the man.

Felipe was shot in the chest. He was treated by medical services and taken to hospital, but did not survive his injuries and died.

The body cameras worn by the police officers recorded the approach and the physical struggle.

The incident was recorded as a death resulting from police intervention. The Civil Police are investigating the case, which will also be reviewed by the Military Police’s Internal Affairs Department.
