JAKARTA, KOMPAS - A clash between two groups of residents occurred on Tambak I Street, Pegangsaan Village, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (26/7/2026). As a result of this incident, one person was killed and several vehicles were set on fire. The clash began from a dispute at a food stall.

From the circulating video recordings, a number of residents can be seen throwing stones at an empty area. This empty area is known to be the residence of a group of people. In addition to destroying buildings, several vehicles appear to be on fire.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Deputy Commissioner Roby Heri Saputra, stated that the clash occurred at 10:00 AM WIB. "There was a fight or commotion that took place between two groups of residents," said Roby, Sunday (26/7/2026).

He said the commotion broke out at a rice porridge stall. At that time, one of the members of the group of residents who were attacked came to order food. "Perhaps because he wasn't served well, this person revved his vehicle and sped away," Roby said.

Shortly thereafter, he arrived with his associates and damaged the cart belonging to the nasi uduk vendor. Unaccepting of this treatment, local residents attacked the group that had vandalized the nasi uduk cart.

From the crime scene investigation, police found debris from the burned building, including a burned vehicle. "We also found blood stains at the scene, but no sharp weapons," he said.

As a result of this incident, two individuals were taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. "When brought to the hospital, both victims were in critical condition, and one of them passed away at the hospital," said Roby.

Until now, two witnesses have been taken to the Menteng Police Station for questioning. The Head of the Menteng Police Station, Deputy Commissioner Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, stated that his team is still investigating the conflicting group of residents.

Braiel stated that one of the conflicting groups has only recently settled on the vacant land. However, there have been several incidents involving that group. "We are still investigating this case by examining several witnesses. We ask for time so that we can handle this case as soon as possible in accordance with the mechanisms and procedures," he said.

Kalibata Case
This is not the first time a conflict has ended in a beating in Jakarta. On December 11, 2025, for instance, two debt collectors, also known as "mata elang," were assaulted by a group of people who were later identified as police officers. As a result of this incident, one person died and another was in critical condition.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM WIB in front of the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP). The event began when two individuals suspected of being eagle-eyed stopped a motorcyclist.

Shortly afterward, a group of people arrived and attacked the two. As a result, one victim died at the scene, while the other died while receiving treatment at Budhi Asih Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

This incident then triggered the arrival of another group suspected to be associates of the victims. As dusk approached, around 80 to 100 people arrived at the location and engaged in anarchistic actions.

As a result of the actions taken, at least 4 cars and 7 motorcycles were damaged. Additionally, 14 vendor stalls were damaged, 2 kios were burned or severely damaged, and 2 residents' houses experienced damage, such as broken windows.
