To be honest, I’d probably be dead if it weren’t for that old man and that 35-year-old swimmer nearby. Every time I rode past this place on my scooter, I was intrigued by the people swimming in that vast lake at the park. And on July 29th last year, I went to swim with my friend, even though he didn't really want to. So I was gonna swim by myself, and dove right in. Before that, I told him to watch how it'd be going, 'cause it's my time in water. (I didn't tell him it's my first time.) Once I dove into the water, I immediately went under and couldn't resurface no matter how hard I tried. I was thinking, definitely there'd be someone saving me and I was so convinced that I was kinda calm inside. And shortly after, an old man on land saw me struggling and called over a swimmer in the water, who saved me. I remember that he put his hand under my armpit, dragged me up to the surface, and pulled me onto land.thereafter. I was literally fucking around and finding out. That friend of mine turned out to be minding his own business, 'cause he was close to the deadline for submitting his university and major preferences for gaokao admissions. The place was kinda crowded. But it was still a chance that I drowned, 'cause everybody would be minding their own business and it was kinda difficult to differentiate a drowning person in a chaotic situation. It would be much better if I could've screamed but when you were drowning, you couldn't make any sound. If it weren't for that old man and that swimmer, I legit could've died that day. I was really primed to think swimming was easy for a newie like me. I fucked up and it nearly cost my life

I was jumping off a ledge protruding round 5 meters out over the water. It's kinda hard to spot me when you're on land. I feel now it was really a miracle that an old man, out of all the people there, could make out a struggling man in that haphazard situation. I was just so lucky that I got backup from someone else seemingly out of nowhere when my own backup failed after I made a mistake that would’ve undoubtedly cost me my life

When I tried to scream for help, I only choked on some water.  I couldn't hear anything and I couldn't make any sound.  It was kinda serene even though I was totally cognizant that it would lead to my ultimate death if no one really steped in. I was calm inside only because I brainwashed myself into believing someone would help me. It's a weird experience

That excuse you are condoning for that friend of yours is bullshit, you asked him to look out for you and he didn't. Avoid like the plague
