On the morning of Thursday, June 19, 2025, a new attack against law enforcement took place, claiming the lives of National Police officers. Criminal groups attacked the municipality of Río de Oro, in the department of César.

The victims were identified as José Daniel Pedraza González and Henry Ospina Lasso, who were wounded by gunshot wounds at the scene. Both were transported to a medical center in Ocaña (Norte de Santander), where they died due to the severity of their injuries. One hypothesis currently being considered is that a sniper was responsible for their deaths.

Arnaldo Osorio, mayor of the municipality, referred to the incident and the loss of the two officers.

“It's sad that this situation continues in our territory. Today we mourn the deaths of these police officers, a public order situation we have been warning about for some time. We feel abandoned, and we reiterate to the National Government that they please resume dialogue and prioritize concrete actions to prevent further human losses in the region ,” Osorio stated.
