Evan Smith, who was among those on board, told KATU that the boy sitting next to his mother had his T-shirt ripped off the plane by the wind. In an emailed statement Friday evening, Alaska Airlines said: "An incident occurred this evening shortly after takeoff on Flight 1282 from Portland, Oregon to Ontario, California."

On Saturday morning, the company said it had taken the "precautionary step of temporarily grounding our fleet of 65 Boeing Max-9 aircraft."
