The shock has caused the assassination of Hugo Leonardo de Leon, director of the Basic Institute for the Strawberry Cooperative (Inbacopa), in San Marcos.

The armed attack took place on the morning of this Tuesday, August 15, in front of the Institute's facilities, located a few blocks from the Municipality of Pajapita.

The 78-year-old man was left on the road, while the attackers fled the scene, according to witnesses.

De León was immediately taken to the Coatepéque Hospital, Quetzaltenango, however, he died upon admission.

So far the causes of the murder are unknown. However, local media handle various hypotheses ranging from the assault, to the annoyance of some students who would have led the attack.

The Departmental Directorate of Pajapita, of the Ministry of Education, expressed its condemnation of the criminal act and expressed its condolences to his family, friends and administrative staff.

The same happened with the authorities of the Instituto Básico por Cooperativa de la Aldea Las Palmas, who expressed their solidarity with the family, after the irreparable loss of the director of Inbacopa.
