A man was shot dead last Monday night (12/16) in the Beira Rio community, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, West Zone of Rio. Two Military Police officers and another individual were detained on charges of involvement in the crime.

The victim was businessman Jonas de Oliveira Souto. In a recording of a security camera installed near the crime scene, he is seen parking his vehicle on Francesco Leta Street when he is surprised by passengers in another car, who stop beside him and shoot him several times.

Jonas couldn't resist his injuries and died at the scene. The body was found by police shortly afterwards. Agents from the 31st BPM (Recreio dos Bandeirantes) who were investigating another occurrence close to the location heard the sound of shots and went to the address to check. Before reaching the point, they approached a vehicle that had passed the crime scene and was traveling at high speed on a nearby road.

In the suspected vehicle were two military police officers - one from the Military Police Operational Control Center (Cecopom) and the other from the 16th BPM (Olaria) -, as well as another man. The three were taken to the 42nd DP (Recreio) and, from there, to the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC), where they gave statements about the case. None of them was ever arrested.

The DHC registered the occurrence and is investigating the crime, which will also have investigations accompanied by the 2nd Police Station of the Military Judiciary Police (DPJM).
